Descendents of Solomon Somerville

The Somerville family and friends meet at the City Park in Parkersburg, W.Va. the first Sun. in Aug. 1948 and organized a Somerville Reunion to meet in the City Park on the same date each year. A large crowd was present.

At the noon hour a delicious basket dinner was served picnic style.

In the afternoon the Reunion was called to order by Buhl Somerville of Parkersburg, W.Va. Prof. M.G. Burnside of Huntington, W.Va was elected Pres. Wilmer Somerville, Palestine, W.Va, Vice Pres. And H.D. Somerville, Sandyville, Sec. Tres. Short talks were made by Prof. Burnside, State Auditor Edgar B. Sims & H.D. Somerville. The Bible of Samuel Somerville 1st was shown by H.D. Somerville which proved interesting to the older folks. Collection of $11.55 was taken.

The presents we have here for various prizes were purchased at Slaven Store Co, Ravenswood, W.Va. Mr+Mrs. Slaven wrapped them up in this nice way.
The Slaven Somerville Famalies were allied together by the early marriages before the Civil War. Andrew Somerville II married Margaret Slaven. James Slaven married Susan, daughter of James Somerville.
